  • Very Happy Monthly Buys: Best Finds of January

This month’s top finds have help me keep up with the goals that I set at the beginning of the year. 1. Water Bottle This water bottle has time markings so it encourages you to drink water throughout the day. It has definitely helped me drink more water throughout the day, even if I’m not always on time with every day’s water consumption, it still helps me to look at the bottle, see that I’m late and drink more at that time. Whether I drink water on time throughout the day, or I notice I’m late and I drink more water than I would anyway, it’s a win-win! 2. Food Scale I wanted a food scale so I could adequately measure how much food I was eating. This scale allows you to weigh your meals and snacks so you know how much you are eating. When paired with a food tracking app like My Fitness Pal you can get a better understanding of how much food is actually consumed, whether it be vegetables, pot roast or cake. 3. Moleskine Notebooks At the beginning of the year we always look for ways to get organized. Well I have found that throughout the year, Moleskine Notebooks keep me organized. I like the moleskin professional notebook because it has spaces for everything! You can use it as a bullet journal, a daily planner or a monthly calendar. I use it to plan out each day. I can write out the date, the top few items for that day and my schedule. I like that you can write everything out because, while I schedule most days, I don’t schedule every single day. So if I miss a day, I don’t waste an entire page in my notebook. I hope these items help you keep track of your goals this year as well! These items would make great gifts by themselves or pair them up! Adding a water bottle and food scale to a gym bag would make a great gift for anyone looking to stay healthy. … VHM

  • Celebrate Today: Fun things to do in February

Sometimes we get stuck in a routine and it can be hard to keep the excitement for everyday activities. Changing things up keeps you on your toes and add a little excitement to your month! These activities are great to do on your own, with a friend or a significant other. 1. Target Couples Challenge If you haven’t heard of the Target Couples Challenge, let me enlighten you! This game can be played at any of your favorite retailers and involves a scavenger hunt-like search of items for your playing companion. Wander around the store and find the items below, set a time limit, set a dollar limit and you’re off! 1. Find something in their favorite color 2. Their favorite thing to drink 3. Their favorite snack 4. Something that reminds you of them. 5. An everyday thing. 2. Make S’mores The utterly delicious campfire treat can be made in your own back yard! Make it a date and grab some marshmallows, grahams and chocolate for the cutest and sweetest activity. I recently picked up this kit from City Bonfires to make it super easy! 3. Have a Taste Test I love this activity because it can be modified to suite any food or drink! If you are normally someone who doesn’t share food, then it’s time to start. With your family, friends or significant other have a taste testing night where everyone shares! One of my favorite ways to do this is with a burger take-out taste test. Let's say there are four participants then everyone chooses a burger they think they will love, then when the food arrives, cut the burger into quarters and everyone gets to try, and determine which one was the best. This can be done with beer, pasta, you name it! If there is a prize for the best item picked—even better! 4. Listen to an Audio Book Listen to an audio book! This might seem basic but when you share an audio book with someone else becomes the next series you’re binge watching together! Listening to a description of a story activates the imagination which can be a great way to spend time by yourself or with a partner. 5. Reset a Resolution How are those New Year’s resolutions doing? Do they need to be reset? If you find you need a little kick in the but to get going again, engage in a little retail therapy and purchase some motivation. Not working out as much as you wanted to—maybe a new set of sneakers is in order? Not eating as healthy as you thought you would—pick up a new cookbook! Not as organized as you thought you would be—buy yourself some new pens and a planner. The point is that the year is long and it’s ok to reignite a passion or resolution with some new gear. 6. Have a Viewing Party February has a few televised events perfect for gathering in your living room. The Super Bowl and the Golden Globes both air in February so make (or order) a delicious array of snacks to enjoy hours of entertainment. Dress up for the event, whether in sports gear for the Super Bowl or elegant attire for the Golden Globes, turn on the television and gather in person or on zoom and watch the event together! Enjoy your month and remember to celebrate everyday! ... VHM

  • Great Shippable Gifts: Vibes Charcuterie Boards

Sometimes the best gift is delivered by a company directly to the gift recipient. As much as I love to be able to control the gift’s contents, packaging and presentation sometimes the best option is to let someone else handle it. Not only can shipping a package from a third party be the perfect gift but it can also make things really easy on you! That’s why I’m showing you great options to send to anyone for those occasions when you’re in a time crunch or just want to send something unique. Recently I purchased several different charcuterie options from a Southern California based company, Vibes. The Order: Item: Sweet Vibe Size: The Sweet Box - Individual Serving Item: Weekend Vibe Size: The Duo - Serves 1-2 Item: San Francisco Vibe Size: The Fam - Serves 2-4 Item: LA Vibe Size: The Duo - Serves 1-2 Delivery & Arrival: When you place your order through their website, you enter in what time you’d like your boards delivered. You are notified when the items are out for delivery and then notified again as your items get closer or when they have arrived. Overall, great attention was paid to the delivery of the order. Presentation: There are times when you receive an order and things need to be put together or assembled to look like what you ordered. This is not the case here, everything arrives beautifully arranged and packaged so that all you need to do is remove the wrapping and enjoy! Quality: Everything that I received was fresh and delicious. Each board had a great selection of items that all went well together to create great flavors. How to Gift: I love these boards to send as a surprise gift or to celebrate a special occasion like or to get delivered for a sweet picnic date (um, Valentine's Day, Anniversaries!). I would love to send this to a new Momma just home from the hospital after giving birth, what a great way to take one more task off her plate by putting delicious food on it! Another benefit to these boards is that you have so many healthy options. We all love getting sweet treats delivered but it’s nice to have an option for a fresh treat sometimes. Vibes also offers experiences which I am dying to try! This is not a paid post, all items were paid for and enjoyed by me. Very Happy Gifting! ... VHM

  • Celebrate Everyday: Fun Things to do this Month

Sometimes we get stuck in a routine and it can be hard to keep the excitement for everyday activities. Changing things up keeps you on your toes and add a little excitement to your month! These activities are great to do on your own, with a friend or a significant other. 1. Take a new online workout class Try a different type of workout than you are used to. If you normally lift weights, take a yoga class. If you normally take yoga take a HIIT class. Breaking a sweat in a new way will challenge you physically and mentally and could help you find a new workout obsession. 2. Play a game Pick a card, any card (game)! Walk down the game aisle of your local store and maybe the spirits aisle too and pick a new game to occupy your time on a Saturday night. My personal favorite is Uno but I also love a good board game. 3. Build a Snowman “Do you want to build a snowman?” cue the frozen soundtrack. If you live in an area that gets snow, appreciate it! Having lived in different climates, I know from personal experience that the snow can create the required chores of shoveling and snow blowing but don’t forget that it also can be glorious! Put on your hat and gloves and spend some time in the greater outdoors. If you aren’t in a climate that gets snow, spend time outdoors in another way. 4. Organize Your Closet and Then Make a Shopping List There’s no time like the present to purge, donate and organize items in your closet. Going through and getting rid of the items you no longer love or use helps get the year off to a great start. After you’ve gone through everything, and I mean really pulling things out and deciding if you will realistically still wear everything, make an intentional shopping list. Think about what you really need. If you’ve gotten rid of the jeans that don’t fit well but you know you need a pair of go-to jeans then add that to the list. Did you realize that you don’t have a rain coat, then add that to the list. Thinking about what you actually need and making a list will help you shop with more intention. Keep this list on your phone and reference it when you’re shopping. 5. Binge a Book Enjoy a leisurely trip to the bookstore and grab an interesting title, sit down with a hot cup of coffee and get lost in a book. Binging a streaming series is nice but switching up the medium from time to time is even more fun. Can you finish an entire book in a day? Learn something new or discover a new world by spending a little time off-screen. If you’re doing this activity with a partner, read out loud to each other. Hearing you friend or spouse’s take on each character can be an entertaining break to the latest tv show. Enjoy your month and remember to celebrate everyday! ... VHM

  • How to Spend New Year's Day

After all the celebrations are over it's time to think about the year ahead. Let’s talk about New Year’s goals and resolutions! While it’s not a gift you give to someone else, reflecting on your year and how you want to improve is the best gift you can give yourself! One of the holiday traditions I have established with myself is to spend time on New Years to gather my thoughts on what I want to accomplish in the next year. Really take time to think about what you what to happen in the next year. Setting goals is not about tearing yourself down if you don’t accomplish them, it’s about giving yourself something to focus on. So when you get distracted you can refer back to them throughout the year. It allows you to reset every day, every week, every month versus just at the start of a new year. Whether it’s a list, a mood board with pasted magazine pictures, or a graphic image created in photoshop it’s a great way of preparing yourself for the year ahead. To help you get the wheels turning, here are a list of topics that you can review: MIND: Learning something new: Take one online class a month Read one book a month BODY: Fitness: Work out twice a week Stress: Meditate at least once a week HEART: Personal: Call Mom once a week Romance: Weekly date nights with husband SOUL: Spirituality: Attend services at least once a month Start Gratitude Journal and write in it daily BUSINESS: Financial goals: Pay off credit card with $100 a week Create business plan for new business idea Now that you’ve thought through your goals, make sure that you’ve addressed the frequency in which you will work on these items. Notice how the examples above each have a time frame associated with them. Make sure you write down when and how often you can commit to these goals. Are these daily, weekly or monthly commitments? It’s about pushing yourself for consistency not perfection. You may need a break so saying you’re going to anything “everyday” is unrealistic and can lead you to get discouraged and give up on a goal early. It’s unrealistic to say you’re going to work out “everyday” if you don’t workout at all now. What if you’re sick? What if it’s your Birthday? Allow yourself some wiggle room in your goal. Instead of “everyday” can you do three days a week? This scheduling allows you to move things around and stay on track. Really think through your goals. Stretch yourself but make your goals attainable if you really work towards them. If you want to write a book, how many words or pages can you dedicate to your book goal a day or every week? When are you going to find time to write? If you say you’re going to write a book, then know that you need to put time towards writing most days. Does that mean you’re going to wake up early, stay up late or work through lunch? After you’ve written down your goals and resolutions for the new year, take pictures! Those goals should be everywhere you look! Take a picture and make it the photo background on your phone, tablet, laptop and/or desktop. And don't stop writing them down! Write down your top goals or all of those goals every day, week or month. Make sure that you are constantly reminding yourself of what YOU said YOU want to accomplish. Now get goal setting! … VHM
