  • A Scary Thought

Close your eyes and picture this… you’ve had an incredible night’s sleep. You went to bed on Christmas Eve and even though you were up a little late you’ve slept a full eight hours wrapped up in the coziest Christmas pajamas adorned with Rudolph, Santa and a couple snowmen. You are warm inside your bed, under layers of blankets and comforters. And even though the weather outside is cold, you are warm and snuggled in tight. The morning light starts to stream in through the blinds and normally you would be slightly annoyed by the sunlight having the audacity to wake you this early, but not this morning. Not this morning because it is Christmas morning, and you are starting to feel the excitement build in your belly! Or could that feeling be the start of hunger for a full Christmas breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, cinnamon rolls—everything! Today you’re eating it all because it’s Christmas. Then, all the sudden that hunger turns to sickness. An anxiety induced nausea brought on by the thought of not getting all your gifts in time. You immediately remember that the reason you were up late the night before was because you were hunting through the mall looking for all of the gifts you could have, and should have bought early. But no, you waited until the last minute and there was nothing left. There were no toys in the toy store, there were no sweaters left at Nordstrom and there was no makeup left at Sephora. Nothing Was Left! The supply chain issues and shipping issues that you were warned about were real and now you’re picturing your niece and nephew opening the box you wrapped for them. Knowing that when they get through the wrapping paper and the tape all they will find is a piece of loose-leaf paper with the words “I Owe You” scribbled on it. The last-ditch effort of a desperate gift giver. This Christmas will go down in their memories as the one where you got them a piece of paper! OPEN YOUR EYES! It’s ok, it’s not too late! You still have time! It was just a scary Halloween nightmare before Christmas! Don’t let this be you on Christmas. Start shopping early and use veryhappymerry.com to help you find the perfect gift! Peruse all of the gift ideas for everyone on your list and get your shopping wrapped up early! Very Happy Gifting! … VHM

  • Fall Fragrance: Decorating with Scents

The smell of a home is often overlooked as a key place to decorate during the fall and holiday season. When someone enters your home they have to, well, breathe! And when they breathe in the fragrance of your home let it be warm inviting and seasonal. These are a few great ways to bring in the seasonal décor through fragrance alone. Household Cleansers There is a reason that cleaning companies come out with different fragranced cleaners throughout the year. It’s to sell more cleaner but also to help change the scent of the home so that it smells and looks fresh. My favorite fall cleaner is Mrs. Meyers’ Acorn Spice. It has a full fall fragrance that wafts through the air every time you enter a room. This general cleaner can be used on may surfaces to (acorn) spice up your home—get it? Soaps Wash your hands. Ok, now that’s out of the way! Keeping your hands clean as well as your house guest’s hands clean is a great way to add festive fragrance into any bathroom. While freshening up, the fragranced soap pulls that fall scent into the air and lingers for those perfectly perfumed twenty seconds—remember wash your hands for twenty seconds each time! Candles Candles are an old standby of season fragrance but everyone can use a friendly reminder to light a candle every now and then throughout the season. Whether it’s to help you relax at the end of a long day or pump you up for the holiday festivities a candle’s scent leaves energy throughout the air. These are great ways to have a very fragranced holiday! So don’t forget to decorate with fragrances and scents this season to add extra ambiance to your home for both you and your house guests to enjoy. … VHM

  • Best Halloween Candy

What are your plans this Halloween? Are you going trick or treating with your kids—no? Are you going to an incredible costume party—no? Ok then, are you watching scary movies and bingeing on delicious food—yes! I thought so! I have come to love spending Halloween watching great scary movies, new and old, while enjoying the candy of my choice. Long gone are the days when I’m rummaging through my Halloween haul for the best candy to eat first as the rejects end up sticking around until Thanksgiving. If you buy only your favorite candy, you love it all! These are my top three favorite candies for Halloween. It doesn’t mean I don’t love other candy—I’m an equal opportunity eater when it comes to candy but for Halloween, the Queen of sugar holidays—these are my go tos! 1. Candy Corn This choice can be controversial, but I stand behind it! This is the only time of the year when I can get my hands on this sugar meets high-fructose-corn-syrup delicacy and I’m all in! Someone literally needs to pull me away from this tasty treat before I get sick, so for that reason it makes my list! 2. Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups Peanut butter and chocolate can also be up for debate but not in Reece’s! This delicious combo already has my mouth watering. There is some conversation about whether the mini cups have a better ratio of chocolate to peanut butter, but in my book—I’ll take all of the size options! 3. Butterfingers Nobody, better lay a finger on my Butterfinger! I’m serious! During Halloween this high saccharine delicacy is addicting! The condensed layers of sugar and peanut butter, wrapped in chocolate is downright diabetes inducing, and I can’t help myself! These are my go-to Halloween treats that I try not to have any other time of year because well, I have no will power but during the Fall, they are all fair game! … VHM
